Ibérica de Patatas buys the Malaga crop

Malaga boasts the earliest Spanish crop and it is being bought up entirely by this company from Madrid.

Since the middle of March, Ibérica Patatas, one of the main Spanish packaging and sales companies, has put Malaga potato into retail stores. The company has bought more than 500,000 kilos of produce from the 1,000 farmers in the province.
Up until now it had been almost impossible to buy this variety in supermarkets or hypermarkets because it is a very fresh, sensitive product with a shorter shelf life than other potato varieties.
Ibérica has important infrastructure allowing it to guarantee the distribution of Malaga new potato under optimal quality conditions and with the best presentation.

New potato from Malaga can be bought in Carrefour stores across Spain. In March, the only new potato on the market is from this Andalusian province and it competes with that of Morocco and Israel. This is a unique product that brings value to the standard ranges in stores, as well as, at the same time, encouraging the consumption of seasonal Spanish produce.
It is hoped that this initiative will stimulate Malaga’s new potato crops which in recent years have been clearly on the decline.
