Anpasol looks South

The Anpasol company is running crop trials in Morocco intending to extend its potato business.

We have around 10 hectares of very early potato planted in Morocco. If all goes according to plan, we will be extending the crop area significantly using an area further North”, comments Francisco Jiménez Berbel, the company President.

In this way, the company, which currently sews around 500 hectares, all under the global Gap norm and sells around 20 million kilos of potato every year, is hoping to both significantly increase its business volume and gain access to the business in very early Moroccan varieties.

“All our activities are based on diverse market research. Although we will also be planting some potato of our own, the majority of our crop will be made up of specific varieties demanded by our European clients,” the President continues.

Anpasol is a joint venture with 50% German capital and 50% Spanish. The fact that its Manager, Ferdinand Vos, is Dutch, adds the final touch to the international nature of the company.

“For our clients, we grow special varieties of potato to order. Each client tries to differentiate themselves from the rest by requesting original types of potato that tend to change quickly. This way of working, together with the efforts of our quality technicians and farmers give us certain stability that protects us from market fluctuations” concludes Jiménez.
