Cabasc S.C.A.; Canalex S.A.T.; Casur S.C.A.; El Grupo S.C.A.; Murgiverde S.C.A.; Nature Choice, S.A.T.; Vicasol S.C.A. and Cajamar are promoting this project which will go into operation sometime between March and April 2009 with an estimated production of 12,000 tonnes and an investment of five million euros, 30% of which will be subsidised by the Anadalusian regional Government.

Initially, ALCOEX Mediterráneo was to be a plant to develop, research, innovate and produce semi-finished products with high nutritional value and flavour based on fruit and vegetables. The initial idea has been adapted to include participation in another project which has emerged after more than two years of research between HRS (a Spanish food engineering company with branches in the United States, England, Germany, India and Dubai), the Restoralia Group (owners of the Tapelia restaurants) and Futura Ieri (a food consulting company of Poldo Torriti, one of the world’s best experts in the food industry).

After tests carried out with tomatoes and cucumbers, ALCOEX has reached a commercial agreement with the Andrómeda Food Company to establish a network of associated kitchens. In this way the pre-prepared convenience food plant from Almeria can supply ingredients and partially finished products based on fruit and vegetable products from the area such as tomato, cucumber, courgette, aubergine etc. throughout the country.

The sales companies that make up ALCOEX Mediterráneo have a combined production volume of 320,000 tonnes with an average turnover of 350 million euros, an area of 4,500 hectares and around 2,200 associated farmers. They generate 3,500 jobs in warehouses and 9,000 in greenhouses.
